Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts codes intermittently or not at all. This usually means the membrane switch matrix is corroding where moisture has wicked through the bezel seal. DIY or Call Us?
There is one thing every San Mateo homeowner can safely check: the transformer output voltage. Open the access control enclosure, locate the small black transformer (usually mounted to the side wall), and read the label. It should say 16.5VAC, 40VA. If you have a multimeter and know how to use it safely with AC power present, you can check across the secondary terminals. Below 15.5V under load, and the system will act erratically. That’s useful information to tell us when you call.
Everything else - relay module replacement, keypad matrix repair, programming the resident directory into an EL2000SS - involves live low-voltage and line-voltage circuits in the same enclosure. The EL2000SS control board has 120VAC present at the transformer primary even when the keypad looks dormant. We’ve also seen homeowners bridge the wrong terminals and send 16.5VAC back into a 12VDC operator input, frying the operator’s logic board.
